Retainer FAQs

How many hours do I get per month?
It depends on your needs. Most clients are on 10-20 hours per month, but I can accommodate more or less. We'll figure out the right amount during the discovery call based on your typical requirements.
What's the minimum commitment?
I ask for a 3-month initial commitment so we can build a proper working relationship. After that, it's month-to-month with 30 days notice to end. Most retainer clients stay for years.
What if I don't use all my hours?
Unused hours roll over for one month. If you consistently don't use your allocation, we can adjust the retainer down. I want this to work for both of us.
What if I need more hours than usual?
No problem. Additional hours are billed at your retainer rate. For larger projects, we can scope and quote separately - retainer clients get priority scheduling and preferential rates.
How do we communicate?
However works best for you. Most clients use Slack for quick messages, email for detailed requests, and occasional video calls for complex discussions. You'll have direct access to me - no ticket systems.
Is this right for my business?
Retainers work best for established stores with ongoing development needs. If you're regularly making changes, adding features, or need reliable technical support - a retainer saves money vs. project-by-project work. If you only need occasional help, per-project might be better.
